A Little About Me and My Garden

In 1998 prior to my retirement from Dupont, I began to wonder about how I could occupy my time. I needed a hobby!!!

A good friend of mine told me that I should grow Daylilies. I said "What!", "Flowers!". He took me to his garden and I was amazed. This was something that I could do and at the same time would not have to leave my home.

The first year I bought a few $5.00 flowers and they did alright. I started to learn more about soil, fertilizer, spray etc.

The second year I cut down a 40' pecan tree to allow more sunlight for my daylilies. The next year, I cut down another 40' pecan tree and really got serious about my garden. I worked in the fall with Mr. Clarence Crochet and learned a lot from him and Mr. Joe Goudeau.

I now have approximately 300 named cultures. I started hybridizing 4 years ago and the seedlings are starting to look pretty good. This year I'll have approximately 1000 seeds to plant and try to find room for. Limited Space!!!!

My garden, "Terrio's Daylily Garden" is an AHA display garden. I belong to two of the local Daylily clubs in my area of Louisiana. "SELDS" in New Orleans and BRDS in Baton Rouge.

My garden is open year 'round, but a call would be appreciated so someone can great you. Peak bloom for my garden is mid May to mid June. We are located off I-10 between New Orleans and Baton Rouge
